These genealogical records of the Atwood family were collected by Charles Atwood, a lawyer of Boston, recently deceased. He bestowed upon them most careful research, both in his country and abroad, visiting personally, in 1854, Sanderstead, in Surrey County, England, in which place and its neighborhood, were the early homes of that branch of the family which appears in Boston in 1642, and in Plymouth a few years earlier. — From the Introduction, signed by H.A.W..
